History
"Ex Umbris"
in Latin means "out of the darkness".
The founder of Xumbrus, Johnathan
Mercer, realized a market void in academic writing software
while writing a paper in college many years ago. He has since
decided to pursue his dreams of helping students. Today, Xumbrus
software is used in 15 countries by high school, undergraduate,
and graduate students. What started as one student's idea has
evolved into a product that will become the "writing handbook of
the 21st century."

Our mission is simple: to create software
that will have a positive impact on the lives of students around the
world. We hope to create software that maximizes student writing
potential because we value the ideas and perspectives they bring
into this world. We strive to create this software because we know
that technology can combat the increasing demands of educational
systems thereby increasing the quality of education.
